After High Court intervention BEST Bus Strike Ends!
The 9 days strike by workers of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) ended after the High Court intervention. The BEST Union agreed to withdraw strike and accepted 10 step increment offered to employees by BEST management. Soon the BEST union will make an official statement of the strike end and come on duty.
It may be noted that the Bombay High Court have appointed a retired high court judge as a mediator to negotiate differences between the BEST management and the union.
It may be noted that over 32,000 BEST employees had been on strike since January 8 over their various demands, including pay hike, revision of pay grade for junior level employees etc. However, after High Court order, the BEST union have agreed ’10-step increment’ proposal to end the strike.
The BEST buses ferry more than 70 lakh commuters on a daily basis. With the strike in place, at least 3200 buses had remained off the road in Mumbai, leading to a horrific time for commuters.
