*Mumbai:* Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam today slammed BJP MLA Ram Kadam over the derogatory remarks against women made by the latter at a Dahi Handi event on Monday. Calling for an immediate suspension of the BJP MLA, Sanjay Nirupam has also raised serious questions on the Govt’s thoughts over rising incidents of crime against women.
The Mumbai Congress Unit Chief said, “How can an MLA speak about kidnapping women and handing them to the lovelorn boys? His statement is extremely unfortunate and shameful. How can we expect the commoners to abide by laws and respect women when an MLA has the audacity to say something like this? Moreover, the fact that there is no action taken by the Chief Minister against Kadam is shocking. Ram Kadam’s statement clearly reflects what the party has in store for the women”.
“Mumbai today has become the rape capital of Maharashtra. Incidents of rapes, abduction, kidnapping and molestation have gone up significantly. While women across State look up to the Govt to bring in policies to protect women, it seems like something as serious as abduction is a joke to the BJP. With this statement, the BJP MLA has insulted every woman of the country and should be suspended immediately. I urge the women to not vote for the BJP until people like Ram Kadam are expelled”, demanded Mr. Nirupam.
The Mumbai Congress President also demanded that the CM must expel Kadam from the Party after having him resign from his post. BJP MLA Ram Kadam made a controversial statement on Monday at a Dahi Handi event wherein he promised to kidnap women for the lovelorn youth. Kadam also shared his number with the crowd in case they needed any help of such kind. The BJP MLA later claimed that the clip which clearly shows him making the controversial statement is distorted. The party too has accepted Kadam’s explanation which has left the people and the Opposition in shock.
