Mumbai, January 20, 2025 – January is a special month for Mumbai, as the city comes alive with a variety of LGBTQ events celebrating Pride. Among these vibrant celebrations, FilmyBees Cine Club, in collaboration with Slums of Bollywood, hosted a remarkable screening of five thought-provoking short films on January 19. The event, attended by 80 film enthusiasts, showcased the power of independent filmmaking to challenge stereotypes and amplify marginalized voices.
The evening’s lineup featured five acclaimed films:
Closets by Jiya Bhardwaj, a touching exploration of coming out and self-acceptance.
Good Morning, I’m a Whore by Aleksandar Mijatovic, a bold narrative celebrating sexual agency.
Queer Khalifa by Danial Gondal, a tale of resilience amidst cultural conflict.
Stigma by Phalgun Kukkadapu, a poignant story about confronting societal prejudice.
Warsha by Dania Bdeir, a visually powerful portrayal of self-liberation in Beirut.
The screening concluded with an engaging Q&A session featuring filmmaker Jiya Bhardwaj. Audience members were captivated as Bhardwaj discussed the inspiration behind Closets, the challenges of portraying LGBTQ stories authentically, and the broader role of cinema in fostering inclusivity.
The collaboration between FilmyBees Cine Club and Slums of Bollywood aimed to create a platform for dialogue and understanding through the lens of independent cinema. Audience members praised the initiative for its bold programming and insightful conversations.
