Hello Mumbai City Desk
Mumbai: The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is not merely a journey to a sacred destination—it is a journey of faith, endurance, self-discovery and spiritual transformation. Senior journalist Preeti Sompura, who recently completed the pilgrimage, shared her experiences from the 13-day Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with fellow journalists at the Mumbai Press Club.
Sharing her deeply personal experience, Preeti Sompura said that the journey to Kailash tests not only a person’s physical strength but also their mental endurance, patience and faith. The challenging terrain, high altitude, unpredictable weather and lack of oxygen make every step of the journey difficult. Yet, she said, the divine energy and spiritual experience of Kailash give pilgrims the strength to continue.

Preeti Sompura spoke about the three-day Kailash Parikrama, describing it as one of the most challenging yet spiritually rewarding experiences of her life. The difficult trekking routes, extreme cold and high altitude force a person to go beyond their physical limits.
She said that after reaching Kailash, a person begins to question oneself and look inward. The journey provides an opportunity to disconnect from the noise and pressures of daily life and connect with one’s inner self.
“Kailash is not just a journey; it is a divine feeling,” she said. “When you stand before Mount Kailash, you experience a sense of surrender. You realise how small we are before nature and the divine.”
She further said that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra teaches important lessons of life patience, humility, courage, gratitude and the importance of letting go of one’s ego. According to her, the journey has the power to bring inner peace and change a person’s perspective towards life.
During the interactive session organised at the Mumbai Press Club, Preeti Sompura also shared photographs, videos and personal experiences from her pilgrimage, allowing the audience to virtually experience the beauty and spiritual atmosphere of Kailash.
She spoke about the majestic snow-covered Mount Kailash, the breathtaking Himalayan landscape and the deep sense of peace experienced during the journey. The interaction also included discussions about the difficulties faced by pilgrims and the mental and physical preparation required before undertaking the Yatra.
Preeti Sompura said that although the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is physically demanding, the experience one gains at the end of the journey is priceless.
“You return home with more than memories,” she said. “You return with a different perspective towards life. Kailash gives you strength, peace and the courage to overcome challenges. It teaches you to surrender, to let go of ego and to become a better human being.”
The session concluded with an emotional message that every person, at least once in their lifetime, should experience the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, not simply as a pilgrimage, but as a journey within themselves.
For those who undertake it with faith, Kailash is not just a destination it becomes a divine experience that stays with them forever.
