Gulmarg experienced its first snowfall today, heralding the onset of Chillai Kalan, the harshest 40-day winter period in Kashmir. The fresh snowfall turned the world-famous hill resort into a pristine white paradise, much to the delight of tourists.
Visitors were seen enjoying the snow-covered landscapes, clicking photographs, playing in the snow, and soaking in the magical winter ambience. The early snowfall has added to the excitement among tourists, many of whom termed it a memorable and refreshing experience.
The beginning of Chillai Kalan, which starts on 21 December and lasts for 40 days, is traditionally associated with intense cold and heavy snowfall in the Valley. Tourism stakeholders have welcomed the seasonโs first snow as a positive sign for winter tourism, especially skiing and other snow-related activities in Gulmarg.

Authorities have assured that necessary arrangements and safety measures are in place to facilitate tourists and ensure smooth services during the winter period.
With the first snowfall and the start of Chillai Kalan, Gulmarg once again reaffirms its status as a premier winter destination, attracting visitors from across the country.
