The Indian Music Group founded in 1973-74 by music-loving students of St.
Xavier’s College, under the guidance of then principal, Fr. Lancy Pereira, and
the great Ustad Alla Rakha Khan, has been relentlessly working to promote
Indian Classical Music amongst the youth. The Indian Music Group, fondly
known as ‘IMG’, is the only student-run organisation in India, functioning for
the past 51 years at the national level,inviting artists from all over the nation to perform at various concerts throughout the year!
As per our tradition, this season Indian Music Group is organising “Malhar Ke
Prakaar”, a music concert dedicated to monsoon. “Malhar” means rain and
this concert entails performances of various forms of the Raag Malhar.
Providing the experience of the rain, this year “Malhar Ke Prakaar” brings to
us, Shri Sameer Rao, senior disciple of Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, India’s one
of the leading bansuri players. Known for his depth and subtlety, he brings the
soulful spirit of the Maihar Gharana to the stage.
The Flute performance will be followed by vocal racital by Pt. Rattan Mohan
Sharma, senior disciple and nephew of Pt. Jasraj ji, is a celebrated vocalist of
the Mewati Gharana. His powerful renditions and command over rare Malhar
variants promise a stirring musical experience.
Malhar Ke Prakaar brings to you the drizzels of rains, soak yourself in it
through the soulful music presented by our artists. Music is brings people
together, and so IMG invites all lovers of rain and music to experience the
magic of Malhar Ke Prakaar at 5.00 pm on Saturday, 23rd of August, 2025 at
St. Xavier’s College Hall, Mumbai. This program is a free walk-in entry so do not miss this opportunity
