In a major administrative overhaul, the Maharashtra government has executed a massive reshuffle within its police establishment, ordering the transfer and promotion of 50 senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers. The high-profile reshuffle impacts key leadership positions across major urban centers and districts, including Mumbai, Pune, and Nashik, among other regions of the state. Aimed at streamlining policing and reinforcing law and order, this sweeping reorganization comes as part of a strategic realignment of the state’s security apparatus.

However, senior IPS officer Dattatray Karale, currently serving as IG of Nashik Region, was not promoted. Political and administrative circles are reportedly linking the decision to past controversies surrounding his public appearance and stage-sharing with self-styled godman and Nashik sex scandal accused Ashok Kharat.

The issue had attracted significant media attention and criticism from social activists, including Anjali Damania, as well as opposition parties. The controversy had also put the Maharashtra Government under scrutiny, following which the administration and senior leaders, including Devendra Fadnavis, maintained distance from the matter.
