Major Shake-up in Maharashtra Police: 9 IPS Officers Transferred

MUMBAI — In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Government of Maharashtra’s Home Department issued an official order on April 20, 2026, announcing the immediate transfer and posting of nine senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers across the state.

The order, issued under the provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act (1951), specifically Sections 22(N) and 22(N)(2), aims to streamline law and order administration in several key districts including Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur.

Key Reassignments

The reshuffle sees several high-profile shifts in leadership. Notable among them is Nikhil Pingle, who moves from his role as Deputy Commissioner of Police in Pune to take charge as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Satara. He replaces Tushar Doshi, who has been reassigned as the SP of Sangli.

In another major move, Yogesh Gupta, previously the SP of Kolhapur, has been promoted to Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) and will now hold charge of the Gadchiroli Range.

Administrative Impact

The state government noted that these transfers were executed following recommendations from the Director General of Police (DGP), Maharashtra, keeping in view the prevailing law and order situation and administrative requirements.

The order further stated that the Director General of Police is expected to take the necessary follow-up actions to ensure a smooth transition of leadership in the respective jurisdictions. This move is seen as an effort by the state to bolster policing efficiency and bring fresh leadership to critical districts.
