Malad Bridge Closure Sparks Protest, BMC Engineer Stands Firm Amidst Crowd

Mumbai, February 3: A bridge connecting Evershine Nagar to Malvani, Malad, was recently closed for bikers, leading to a late-night protest by a large number of Malvani residents. While heavy police deployment was witnessed at the scene, officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) were notably absent, despite being responsible for the decision.

However, a video of BMC P-North Assistant Engineer Mandar Chaudhary has been going viral for the past two days. In the footage, Chaudhary is seen standing alone amidst hundreds of protesters, answering their questions with confidence and clarity.

BMC’s Justification for Closure

The BMC has stated that the bridge was originally constructed for pedestrians only and was never meant for bikers. When residents questioned why motorcycles had been using the bridge for years and whether the decision implied past officials were wrong, Mandar Chaudhary firmly responded:

“If this bridge collapses and an accident occurs, the police will come to my house as the Assistant Engineer, not yours. That is why my team and the Ward Officer decided to close the bridge. If you have any other concerns, let me know.”

Rare Display of Accountability

In most cases, government officials avoid confrontations during public protests. However, Mandar Chaudhary’s bold and direct approach, engaging with the agitated crowd late at night, has drawn widespread attention. His actions have become a major topic of discussion among BMC officials, with many noting his unwavering stand in the face of public dissent.

As the controversy continues, Malvani residents remain firm in their demand for access, while BMC officials defend their decision as a safety measure.
