Mumbai : The Congress Party which is busy galvanizing its party to counter Narendra Modi in the upcoming Lok Sabha election in 2019 received a major jolt on Wednesday morning when it lost Gurudas Kamat, one of the most dynamic and a dedicated Congress senior leader. Gurudas Kamat died due to cardiac arrest at Primus Hospital in New Delhi. He was 63.
With the sad and untimely demise of Gurudas Kamat, who was Ex-Union Minister and five-term MP from Mumbai North-East and North-West, the entire Congress party was left dazed. Rahul Gandhi, Congress President in his tweet mourned, “The sudden passing away of senior leader Gurudas Kamatji, is a massive blow to the Congress family. Gurudasji helped to build the Congress party in Mumbai and was greatly respected and admired by all. My condolences to his family in their time of grief. May his soul rest in peace.”
In Mumbai, top Congress Leaders paid tributes including Ashok Chavan, RK Patil, Sanjay Nirupam, Arif Naseem Khan and several Congress leaders. Mudassar Patel, Vice President of the Minority Congress paying homage to Gurudas Kamat told Hello Mumbai, “I am saddened by the death of Kamatji. It is a huge loss for the Congress party as well as the whole nation. Kamatji had dedicated his life to the nation and for social services; he was a grass root level activist and a true Mass Leader!”
