MUMBAI: In a key administrative transition, senior IPS officer Satyanarayan Choudhary has officially taken charge as the new Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) for Mumbai. He succeeds senior IPS officer Anil Kumbhare, who has transitioned into his new role as the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).

A Proven Track Record in Mumbai Leadership
Joint CP Choudhary brings a wealth of experience, tactical acumen, and deep institutional knowledge to the Mumbai Traffic Police.

Proven Expertise: Having previously served in critical roles—including as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) across key zones in Mumbai—he possesses an intimate understanding of the city’s unique socio-geographic and logistical landscape.

Strategic Traffic Management: Widely recognized for his strategic approach to urban mobility, Mr. Choudhary’s expertise is expected to streamline Mumbai’s traffic management, enhance road safety, and implement innovative transit solutions.

With major infrastructure projects underway across the metropolis, Mr. Choudhary’s leadership will be pivotal in navigating Mumbai’s evolving traffic dynamics and ensuring smoother commutes for citizens.

Who is Satyanarayana Choudhary 

A 2004 batch IPS officer from the Maharashtra cadre, Choudhary’s journey began far from the noise of Mumbai. Over the years, he has built his career across multiple city postings, moving through the ranks with assignments that exposed him to everything from street-level crime to city-wide crowd control.

His early days as a DCP in Mumbai’s South Region gave him a close view of the layered fabric of the city, from elite business zones to vulnerable neighbourhoods, where every decision taken by the police can swing the mood of the street.

Later, he served as an Additional Commissioner and also held a stint in the Traffic Police, sharpening his skills in urban logistics and people management.

Krishna Prakash: Shifted from ADG (Force One) to ADG (Training).

Datta Karale: Moved from Special IG (Nashic Range) to Special IG (State Human Rights Commission).

Pravin Padwal: Transferred from Special IG (Training) to Special IG (Nashic Range).

Lakhmi Gautam: Shifted from Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime, Mumbai) to Special IG (Law & Order, Maharashtra State).

Manoj Sharma: Moved from Special IG (Law & Order, State) to Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order, Mumbai).

Suvez Haque: Transferred from Special IG (Planning & Coordination) to Joint Commissioner of Police (Administration, Mumbai).

Mahesh Patil: Promoted from Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region, Mumbai) to Special IG (Planning & Coordination).

Paramjit Dahiya: Promoted from Additional Commissioner of Police (Mumbai) to Special IG (Anti-Terrorism Squad – ATS).

C. K. Meena: Moved from Special IG (ATS) to Special IG (Konkan Range).

Sanjay Darade: Shifted from Special IG (Konkan Range) to Joint Commissioner of Police (Pune).
