MUMBAI: In a significant top-level reshuffle in the Maharashtra Police administration, senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Nishith Mishra has been promoted to the rank of Special Inspector General (IG), Training. Prior to this elevation, Mishra was serving as the Joint Commissioner of Police for the Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW).

A Distinguished Tenure at EOW
Mishra, a 2004-batch IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, took charge of the Mumbai EOW in December 2022. His tenure at the premier anti-financial crime unit is widely regarded as remarkable, marked by a relentless crackdown on white-collar crime and high-profile financial scams.

During his stint, the EOW took aggressive action against fraudulent investment schemes, including notorious Ponzi scams, the Torres case, and the multi-crore Heera Gold scam.

Furthermore, Nishit Mishra led a stringent campaign against malpractice in the real estate sector. Under his leadership, the wing registered several First Information Reports (FIRs) against major real estate developers accused of cheating homebuyers, leading to high-profile arrests and strict legal actions.

 

Career and Profile Overview
A Direct Recruit (RR) who entered the service through the UPSC Civil Services Examination, Mishra holds a B.Tech. degree from Delhi, which is also his home state. He officially joined the IPS on September 6, 2004 .

With 22 years of distinguished service on record, Mishra has maintained a stellar reputation within the department. Known among his peers and subordinates for his soft-spoken yet straightforward demeanor, he has earned a track record for maintaining absolute professionalism and keeping a distance from controversies.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Civil List, Mishra had been serving at Pay Level 14 prior to this latest promotion. His transition to the role of Special IG (Training) is expected to bring his extensive operational experience into shaping the state’s police training infrastructure.

Lakhmi Gautam: Shifted from Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime, Mumbai) to Special IG (Law & Order, Maharashtra State).

Manoj Sharma: Moved from Special IG (Law & Order, State) to Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order, Mumbai).

Suvez Haque: Transferred from Special IG (Planning & Coordination) to Joint Commissioner of Police (Administration, Mumbai).

Mahesh Patil: Promoted from Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region, Mumbai) to Special IG (Planning & Coordination).

Paramjit Dahiya: Promoted from Additional Commissioner of Police (Mumbai) to Special IG (Anti-Terrorism Squad – ATS).

C. K. Meena: Moved from Special IG (ATS) to Special IG (Konkan Range).

Sanjay Darade: Shifted from Special IG (Konkan Range) to Joint Commissioner of Police (Pune).

In a major administrative overhaul, the Maharashtra government has executed a massive reshuffle within its police establishment, ordering the transfer and promotion of 50 senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers. The high-profile reshuffle impacts key leadership positions across major urban centers and districts, including Mumbai, Pune, and Nashik, among other regions of the state. Aimed at streamlining policing and reinforcing law and order, this sweeping reorganization comes as part of a strategic realignment of the state’s security apparatus.
