Mumbai: Harshita Narvekar, BJP BMC Corporator, Ward No.226, says timely testing and screening of Covid-19 pandemic would have saved the present alarming situation in Mumbai
Mumbai: Ms. Harshita Narvekar, BJP BMC Corporator of BJP, is known for the beautification of South Mumbai areas like Nariman Point, Marine Drive, Mantralaya area (Churchgate), Cuffe Parade, Cooperage and Oval Maiden. These areas fall under Ward No. 226 handled by Harshita Narvekar.
While sharing her experience with ‘Hello Mumbai News’ reporter Amreen Shaikh, she says, “had the concerned authorities been more combative towards this noble cause by providing medical services as per requirements, then the things would have been much better. There are very limited ventilators, beds in hospitals and the quantum of people severly affected are massive and breathtaking. Thats precisely the reason for the increase in death rates day-to-day in Mumbai’s slum ” .
Prior to BMC coming on board, Ms. Narvekar and her team strode together to support and help the underprivileged and migrants stuck in this difficult situation by providing food packets and Ration through NGO’s and fund raising activities. They are into distribution of 10,000 food packets daily to the underprivileged . Also, they had already provided ration to nearly 10,000 families in slum areas and continuing to do so. Vegetable van vendors are facilitated for the highrise buildings and subsidized vegetables for the people living in slum areas.
Alongside, they had also been active in providing medical support and services. They had distributed 25,000 masks in Slum areas and also provided sanitisers. The Sanitisers were also provided to the Police officers and the members of the ward. They also sanitized the slum and all the residential areas and facilitated with the sanitizing machines to the societies for regular sanitization.
At this quarantine period, when most of us are free and spending time with family members, Harshita Narvekar shares her quarantine days by saying that ‘For us, it has been a busier time than usual. Unfortunately, some of our Karyakartas, specially the frontline workers, who’ve the been the backbone throughout the work would be risking their life and compromising. They have contracted the epidemic. So I deem it as the most challenging thing, but of course it’s a challenging time for all of us. During this lockdown, what I’ve really seen is the communities and societies coming together to combat COVID-19, which is a good example.
Finally, Ms. Narvekar addresses, ’People must follow the protocols in order to keep their families safe. Even if the lockdown gets lifted, things will not return to normalcy soon. We need to learn to maintain social distancing and maintain it throughout our lives, must also practice the use of masks and sanitizers in our daily lives.’
