Mumbai:Maha Govt gives big relief to migrants desiring to go to their State, No Medical Certificate required
Mumbai: It comes as a big relief to thousands of migrant workers stranded in Maharashtra, and waiting anxiously to reach their respective states.
The Maharashtra Government clarifies that there is no need to attach a medical certificate to the registration form required to facilitate the journey.
In an order signed by the Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, Ajoy Mehta, on May 7, the government has amended an earlier order which made it obligatory for migrant workers to submit a fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner along with the registration form, to be considered for going to their State.
The new order mentions that migrants or stranded persons wish to travel to their home state should be screened at the time of start of journey by use of digital thermometer and symptomatic examination.
Now there is no need for migrants to run around for a medical certificate as they can simply walk up to the point of journey (railway stations or bus terminus as the case may be) and get screened by digital thermometer before commencing their journey.
The screening will be done free of cost by Medical officers of Government/Municipal Corporations by hiring the services of registered medical practitioners by the Municipal Corporations, the order states.
It is believed that the government decision was prompted by news about exorbitant costs being charged on the migrants while issuing medical certificates by medical practitioners in several parts of the state. Moreover, factors like asymptomatic persons developing the infection during the incubation period between the medical test and approval for journey were also taken into consideration.
A single list of all passengers indicating that they have been screened and found to be not displaying any Influenza Like Illness (ILI) will be issued by the medical person in charge. “There will be no need for individual certificates and a certification of passengers manifest shall suffice,” the order states.
