MUMBAI — In a major breakthrough, the Santacruz Police have cracked a high-value burglary case, arresting a habitual offender from Darbhanga, Bihar, and recovering assets worth ₹76.39 lakh, including cash, gold, and a luxury Rolex watch.
​As per the press note released by Mumbai police, detailing a housebreak-in that occurred between June 20, 2026, and July 27, 2026, at a residential residence on Juhu Tara Road, Santacruz (West). According to the police, the intruder broke the window of the locked home, forced open the bedroom door and cupboard locker, and stole gold biscuits, ornaments, cash, and a Rolex watch—initially estimated by the complainant at ₹54,60,000.
​An FIR was registered at Santacruz Police Station (Crime No. 1236/2026) under Sections 331(3), 331(4), and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
​Swift Multi-State Operation
​Utilizing technical analysis and tip-offs from local informants, the investigation team identified the suspect as Chandan Kamlesh Mukhiya (26), a resident of Darbhanga, Bihar, with a prior criminal record.
​Under the guidance of senior officers, a dedicated Santacruz police team dispatched to Bihar. Working in coordination with the local Sonki Police Station, the team successfully apprehended Mukhiya in Darbhanga. He was presented before the Darbhanga court, which granted a transit remand through August 8, 2026, to bring him back to Mumbai.
​Recovery of Seized & Frozen Property
​During interrogation, the suspect revealed he had handed over the stolen cash to an acquaintance, Kailash Sah, to purchase land in his name. Acting swiftly, police located and froze the bank account where Sah had deposited the funds. A notice under Section 35(3) of the BNSS was served to Sah.
​In total, police recovered and frozen assets worth ₹76.39 Lakh:
​Rolex Watch: Valued at approximately ₹5,00,000.
​Gold Bar (200g): Valued at approximately ₹25,00,000.
​Frozen Bank Account: Totaling ₹46,39,00,00 (₹46.39 Lakh).
​Investigation Team

In an exclusive interview with Hello Mumbai News, Senior Police Inspector Dattatray Masvekar confirmed that the accused has been remanded to police custody. The police are now investigating his possible involvement in another robbery case reported in Mumbai. “Our investigation is underway, and we are trying to ascertain his role in the other robbery case,” Masvekar said

Brief Fact of the Operation:

​The successful operation was conducted under the leadership of Abhinav Deshmukh (Additional CP, West Region, Bandra) and Dr. Mohit Kumar Garg (DCP, Zone-02), alongside ACP Vinod Gavkar (Santacruz Division) and Senior PI Dattatray Masvekar (Santacruz Police Station).
​The core investigation was spearheaded by Assistant Police Inspectors Sanjay Kadam, Dinkar Darade, and Sub-Inspector Umesh Kolge, alongside officers from the Crime Detection Cell.
​Further investigation into additional accomplices involved in the crime is currently ongoing.
