Mumbai:  Virar-Vasai Lions District 3231A3 Members come forward to help labour class people and poor migrants with food and essential items in lockdown, Read details here

Mumbai: Mumbai Virar-Vasai region Lion Members of Lions District 3231A3 are leaving no stones unturned in extending all their possible help to the Government administration as well as to the underprivileged people of society during the current COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown situation in country.

Notably, the Vasai-Virar region which comes under MMRDA, predominantly has a population of Middle and Lower Middle Class people who belong to the labour class either working in industries around the region or from Mumbai.

This lockdown has severly placed them in a predicament not being in a position to earn their livelihood or make their ends meet since more than a month now.

Even the migrated labourers from Gujarat, Rajasthan State made efforts to flee to their native place by walking it down when all public transportation has been stopped. They were all stopped at the State border which falls under the jurisdiction of Palghar District, which remotely falls under Lions District 3231A3, as informed by *Lion Anjali Umesh Mestry who is a Region Chairperson of Region 1, Lions District 3231A3.*

Thousands of migrants were stopped on highway leaving them nowhere to go with their families and that to with no resources to cook food or feed their families.

Remarkably, the call from District Administration to all NGO’S was immediately answered by the members of Lions Club of Vasai Pearls and Lions Club of Vasai Unique, who are part of Vasai First which is consortium of various NGO’S working in Vasai.

Two Community kitchens were immediately put into operation with crowd funding and they started providing meals to 1500-2000 people daily, as per the request of District Administration as well as groups of daily wages labours.

Notwithstanding the decline in numbers to around 1000 meals per day, yet it is being continued since more than 3 weeks.

Looking to the need for safety equipments for the Government staff who are pushed into a war waged by COVID-19 Pandemic, Lions District Administration under the initiative of DG Lion Dr. Ajeet Jain, has supplied PPE Kits, Masks, Sanitiser liquid to the office of Tehsildar, Vasai, as well as Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation Health Department which was well appreciated and duly acknowledged by Tehsildar Survase Ji and Mayor Shri Pravin Shetty Ji.

The ceaseless and long working hours by Government Administration staff and Police Staff has put them at a risk of exposure to infection as well as mental and physical fatigue.

Keeping this in mind once again the Lions Club Vasai Pearls and Lions Club of Vasai Unique, with the support of Janseva Charitable Hospital, Vasai, conducted Medical Check-up camp for staff at Tahsildar office and Vasai Gaon(village) and Manickpur Police Station. They intend to continue this screening to all policemen and administration staff thereby adhering to Lions International slogan of:
