Budgam, July 29, 2025 – In a significant step towards raising public awareness about Tuberculosis (TB) and promoting the Government of India’s mission to eliminate the disease by 2025, the District Health Society Budgam today organized a TB Awareness Rally. The event saw the enthusiastic participation of students, healthcare professionals, and members of the public.
The rally was flagged off by Chief Guest, Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Dr. Bilal Mohiuddin, who emphasized the importance of public cooperation and awareness in fighting TB. In his address, he stated, “Community engagement, especially youth involvement, is crucial in our collective mission to eliminate TB. Awareness is the first step toward prevention, diagnosis, and cure.”
The event was organized under the supervision of District TB Officer Budgam, Dr. Shaheema, with support from the Chief Medical Officer Budgam, Dr. Gulzar. Also in attendance were:

The rally commenced from the District Hospital Budgam and moved through major public areas, with students carrying banners, placards, and chanting slogans to educate the public about TB symptoms, prevention, and the importance of early detection and treatment. The students’ active involvement underscored the role of youth in public health advocacy.
Dr. Shaheema, while speaking to participants, shared that regular awareness drives are essential in dispelling myths and encouraging people to avail themselves of free diagnosis and treatment services provided under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP).
CMO Budgam Dr. Gulzar commended the efforts of all participants and reiterated the commitment of the district health administration in achieving a TB-free Budgam.
The event concluded with a brief awareness session, where healthcare officials addressed the gathering and distributed IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials to the public.
