Hello Mumbai Guest Post DeskÂ
An interesting way to understand international politics is using behavioral styles! The Eagle, Parrot, Owl, Dove personality model provides a great lens to analyze leadership and diplomatic styles.
Ronald Reagan being an Eagle-Parrot style was confident and aggressive (Eagle) in his anti-Soviet stance early on but also optimistic and persuasive (Parrot) in diplomacy. At that time in history the President of USSR Mikhail Gorbachev being Owl-Dove style was thoughtful, analytical (Owl), and diplomatic, seeking peace (Dove). His careful approach to reform (Glasnost & Perestroika) helped dissolve tensions.
Impact: Their complementary styles—Reagan’s assertive vision and Gorbachev’s thoughtful cooperation—enabled meaningful negotiations that ended the Cold War peacefully.
In todays times both Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are Eagle behaviour styles
Trump (Eagle) → Dominant, competitive, and aggressive. He values strength, winning, and direct action, often dismissing traditional diplomacy.
Putin (Eagle) → Strategic, assertive, and power-driven. He prioritizes strength and control, often using force or manipulation to achieve his goals.
Impact: Two strong-willed leaders with similar power-driven styles can lead to unpredictable relationships. At times, they seemed to respect each other, but this also raises concerns about unchecked aggression and instability. Unlike Reagan and Gorbachev, who worked toward peace, Trump and Putin’s Eagle nature leans toward competition and conflict.
The world is both in politics and business is shaped by how well we understand
1. Our Style
2. The style of the person we are interacting with
3. How we adapt to each other to produce a win win situation.
