Vijayadasami also known as Dasahara, Dusshera, Dasara or Dashain is the tenth day in the hindu calender of Ashvin, and the end of Navaratri festival. It is the cultural celebration of the victory of good over the evil or the winning of Dharma (good doing) over the Adharma(bad doing) by giving up anger, greedyness, wrath, fear and negativity to attain peace, wealth and prosperity. This auspicious moment is celebrated with the immersion of Maa durga or the burning of Ravana with different rituals as all the married women apply sindhur on the forehead and the feet of the Goddess Durga and offer sweets to her and pray for a warm welcome for the next year and they smear each other with sindhur as a holy ritual to attain entity. Then the clay statues of Maa durga, saraswati, laxmi, ganesh and kartick are ceremoniously walked to a river or a ocean coast for a solumn goodbye to maa durga with various traditional music ,dance and songs. When the procession reaches the water Maa durga is immersed, the clay dissolves and she is believed to return to the mount kailasha with lord shiva.People used to distribute sweets and gifts while visiting theirs friends and family during this period. My warmth regards to every person in this world on this auspicious occasion to create better life to look forward.
