The Thane Pride Festival, led by transwoman and community advocate Christina Evers, will organize a silent candlelight protest on April 18, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Ahilyabai Statue, near Talao Pali, Thane West.
This peaceful demonstration is being held in response to the recently passed Transgender
Amendment Bill 2026, which has raised serious concerns among transgender individuals and human rights advocates across India. The bill is widely viewed by many as undermining the dignity, autonomy, and fundamental rights of transgender persons.
A Silent Protest with Powerful Voices The protest will be conducted in silence. Participants will carry placards expressing messages such as ‘Our dignity is not up for debate’, ‘Trans rights are human rights’, and ‘The right to self-identify is a constitutional right.’
Symbolism Behind the ProtestCandles symbolize remembrance, resilience, and hope for equality. Participants are requested to wear black as a mark of protest andresilience.
