Harbour Line AC Local Services Register Significant Growth in Occupancy


Mumbai 27 th May: Central Railway’s AC suburban services on the Harbour Line have witnessed a significant increase in passenger response, reflecting the growing preference of commuters for comfortable, faster and premium suburban travel.
The AC local services on Harbour Line were introduced on 26.01.2026 and have received an encouraging response from commuters since their introduction.
In line with growing passenger demand, Central Railway started 14 additional AC services on Harbour Line with effect from 01.05.2026. With this augmentation, Central Railway’s AC suburban operations now comprise a total of 108 AC suburban services, including 80 services on Main Line and 28 services on Harbour Line.
Following the increase in Harbour Line AC services from 01.05.2026, occupancy figures recorded substantial growth. A comparison between the periods from *16.04.2026 to 30.04.2026 and 01.05.2026 to 15.05.2026* indicates notable improvement.
• The number of passengers travelling by Harbour Line AC services increased sharply from *2.34 lakh to 3.86 lakh* registering a growth of *64.97%*
• Revenue earnings from Harbour Line AC suburban services also showed impressive growth, increasing from *₹1.18 crore to ₹1.96 crore*, registering an increase of *66.43%.


Ticket Checking Drives Intensified*
Central Railway’s Mumbai Division conducts frequent special ticket checking drives in AC locals and at stations to curb irregular travel and ensure the safety and comfort of bonafide passengers. These special checks help detect and penalise passengers travelling without proper tickets and act as a strong deterrent against ticketless travel.
The encouraging passenger response highlights the success of Central Railway’s efforts to provide enhanced comfort and a superior travel experience to suburban commuters while strengthening premium mobility options across Mumbai’s suburban network
