Hello Mumbai City Desk
THANE: ( Mura Road,) In a major crackdown on human trafficking, the Nayanagar Police in Mira Road (East) busted an interstate sex racket operating out of Mumbai’s orchestra bars and dance clubs. The operation led to the arrest of a prominent female agent and the successful rescue of three victimized women.
The raid was conducted under the jurisdiction of the Mira-Bhayandar Vasai-Virar (MBVV) Police Commissionerate.
The Sting Operation
The breakthrough came after Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 1, Rahul Chavan (IPS), received a confidential tip-off. The intelligence indicated that a female agent was operating a prostitution ring by sharing photographs of orchestra bar dancers with prospective clients via phone, and was scheduled to deliver women to a designated spot near Payade Hotel, opposite Deepak Hospital on Mira-Bhayandar Road.
Acting swiftly on the lead, a joint team led by Nayanagar Police Station’s Senior Police Inspector (PI) Amar Jagdale set up a trap. The police dispatched a dummy customer and independent witnesses to the location. As the transaction took place, the team raided the spot, apprehending the female agent and rescuing three victims from the racket.
Modus Operandi and Investigation
Preliminary investigations reveal that the arrested accused had been running this illicit trade for the past two years across Mumbai, Vasai-Virar, and Mira-Bhayandar. She allegedly targeted vulnerable women working in orchestra ladies’ bars and dance clubs, pushing them into flesh trade.
The police are currently investigating:
The involvement of other associates, partners, or sub-agents in the network.
The specific lodges, hotels, and safe houses where the victims were regularly sent to clients.
The exact number of women trafficked and clients serviced by this syndicate over the last two years.
Legal Action
The Nayanagar Police have booked the accused female agent under Section 143(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Sections 4 and 5 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act (PITA). Legal proceedings are underway to transition the three rescued victims to a state-run women’s rehabilitation and reformation home.
