Hello Mumbai City Desk
MUMBAI — In a major administrative overhaul, the Maharashtra Home Department has ordered the transfer of 96 police officers across the state, triggering a significant shake-up in the top brass of the Mumbai Police.
Among the high-profile appointments, senior IPS officer Manojkumar Sharma has been named the new Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) for Mumbai, while senior officer Anil Kumbhare has also taken charge of a key portfolio in the reshuffle.
From Inspiration to Top Cop
Sharma, a 2005-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, is widely recognized across the nation. His remarkable journey from extreme poverty and academic failure to the upper echelons of Indian law enforcement inspired the critically acclaimed blockbuster biographical film 12th Fail.

A Proven Track Record in Mumbai
This appointment marks a significant return to core policing in the metropolis for Sharma, who is already well-acquainted with Mumbai’s complex security dynamics.
During his previous tenures in the city, he successfully served in pivotal roles, including:
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone 1: Overseeing critical areas in South Mumbai.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime/Regions): Managing law enforcement for the high-profile Western Region.
In addition to his state postings, Sharma has also served on central deputation with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), bringing a wealth of diverse administrative and security experience to his new role.
As Joint CP (Law and Order), Sharma will now head one of the most crucial wings of the Mumbai Police, tasked with maintaining peace and managing daily security operations in the financial capital.
