The Arrogance of the United States: An Iranian Perspective

Hello Mumbai International Desk

Throughout history, Iran has endured relentless attempts by the United States to impose its will, dictate policies, and undermine national sovereignty. The actions of American leaders, particularly in recent decades, have only reinforced the belief that U.S. foreign policy is driven by arrogance—an unwillingness to respect independent nations, an obsession with dominance, and a disregard for international laws.
The Historical Roots of American Arrogance
American arrogance toward Iran is not a recent phenomenon; it has deep historical roots. The 1953 CIA-backed coup against Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh remains one of the most glaring examples of Washington’s disregard for democratic sovereignty. The U.S. orchestrated the overthrow of a legally elected government simply because Iran sought to nationalize its oil resources, prioritizing Western corporate interests over Iran’s right to self-determination. This marked the beginning of a long legacy of interference, culminating in unwavering U.S. support for the brutal dictatorship of the Shah—a regime that suppressed Iranian identity while serving American interests at the expense of the Iranian people.
Economic Warfare: Sanctions as a Tool of Oppression
The U.S. has weaponized economic sanctions not as a tool of diplomacy, but as a form of economic warfare against the Iranian people. Under the pretext of nuclear concerns, the U.S. has imposed crippling sanctions that have deprived millions of Iranians of access to essential goods, medicine, and financial stability. Even when Iran honored its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2015, the Trump administration unilaterally withdrew from the agreement in 2018. This reckless decision, condemned even by America’s European allies, proved that the U.S. does not respect international agreements unless they serve its own hegemonic interests.
Military Aggression and Regional Destabilization
While the U.S. lectures Iran on regional stability, it maintains a vast military presence in the Middle East, with dozens of bases surrounding Iran. The assassination of General Qasem Soleimani in 2020 was not just an act of war but a blatant violation of international law. Washington openly boasts about its power to violate sovereign borders and eliminate figures it deems a threat—yet when other nations act in self-defense, they are labeled aggressors. This double standard exposes the hypocrisy at the core of American foreign policy.
The U.S. Double Standard: Friends and Enemies
The U.S. claims to champion democracy and human rights, yet it turns a blind eye to the crimes of its allies. It supports the brutal Saudi regime, even as it commits war crimes in Yemen. It funds and defends Israeli occupation and aggression, ignoring the suffering of Palestinians while condemning Iran for supporting resistance movements. This selective enforcement of morality reveals that U.S. policy is not about justice, but about serving its own imperial ambitions.
Trump’s Rhetoric: A Clear Display of Arrogance
The Trump era made American arrogance more visible than ever before. His “maximum pressure” campaign, withdrawal from the nuclear deal, and open threats against Iran confirmed what many Iranians already knew: the U.S. does not negotiate in good faith. When Trump threatened to “obliterate Iran” and boasted about economic destruction, he made it clear that Washington does not seek peace or dialogue—it seeks submission.
Iranian Defiance Against Maximum Pressure Despite Washington’s economic and political pressure, the Iranian people have consistently demonstrated resilience. Just days after Trump announced the implementation of his “maximum pressure” policy—aiming to halt Iran’s missile program and reduce its oil sales to zero—the Iranian people responded with defiance. On the 46th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, millions participated in the 22 Bahman rallies, sending a clear message that Iran would not bow to foreign coercion.
Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, addressing the massive crowd at Azadi Square, questioned the sincerity of U.S. calls for negotiation, pointing to Washington’s repeated missteps and betrayals. While Trump claimed his sanctions were not intended to harm Iranian citizens, his administration sought to block access to essential goods such as medicine, food, and water. The Iranian people saw through this facade and reaffirmed their commitment to sovereignty and resistance.
Conclusion: The Right of the Iranian People to Resist U.S. Arrogance
The Iranian people have the undeniable right to resist U.S. arrogance in all its forms—whether through economic pressure, military threats, or diplomatic coercion. No nation should be forced into submission by a foreign power seeking to dictate its future. The history of U.S. interference, its double standards, and its blatant disregard for Iranian sovereignty have only strengthened the resolve of the Iranian people.
Resistance is not just a choice—it is a duty in the face of oppression. Iran will continue to stand firm, defending its independence, dignity, and right to shape its own destiny, free from Washington’s arrogance. The Iranian people will never accept humiliation, and their struggle against U.S. domination remains a testament to their unwavering commitment to justice, sovereignty, and national pride.
