BMC Deploys Additional Staff to Fast-Track Birth Certificate Processing.

Mumbai: In a major citizen-service initiative, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has deployed additional manpower to speed up the processing of pending birth certificate applications across several civic wards.
BMC Additional Municipal Commissioner Prajakta Verma-Lavangare has directed officials to strengthen staffing at birth registration centres in Mankhurd, Shivaji Nagar, Kurla, and Chembur to ensure faster disposal of applications.
To improve accessibility for citizens, the working hours of Civic Facilitation Centres (CFCs) have been extended from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for accepting birth certificate applications. Depending on public demand, selected CFCs will also remain operational on Sundays to facilitate applicants.
The Additional Municipal Commissioner has further instructed officials to clear the backlog of pending birth certificate applications in the M-East, M-West, and L Wards on priority. Special emphasis has been placed on processing applications required for educational admissions, higher studies abroad, visa procedures, and other official purposes.
The move comes in response to the increasing number of citizens seeking QR code-enabled birth certificates, which are now widely required for domestic and international documentation.
The BMC expects the enhanced staffing, extended service hours, and priority-based processing to significantly reduce delays and improve the overall efficiency of birth certificate services across Mumbai.
