India’s Paid Music Subscriptions to reach 30 Millions by 2028,Says EY – IMI Report

0
Hello Mumbai Entertainment Desk: ndia’s paid music subscriptions could reach 28–30 million by 2028 as industry focuses on monetization and premium experiences: EY–IMI report  96% of smartphone users listen to music, with 80% spending more than one hour per day listening Yet, India had an estimated 14 million paid music subscriptions as of December 2025, compared to over 200 million video subscriptions The report estimates that paid music subscriptions in India could reach 28–30 million by 2028 if current monetization initiatives continue 24 July 2026, Mumbai: Despite music being among the most consumed forms of digital entertainment in India, paid music streaming remains significantly underpenetrated, according to the report by EY and the Indian Music Industry (IMI), How India listens, streams and pays for music. The report estimates that India had approximately 14 million paid music subscriptions in 2025 and that the subscriber base could grow to 28–30 million by 2028, supported by product innovation, partnerships and evolving consumer preferences.  The EY–IMI report is based on a survey of more than 15,000 smartphone users across India and explores music consumption behaviour, subscription trends and factors influencing willingness to pay for music services. The findings indicate that music engagement remains exceptionally strong, with 96% of smartphone users listening to music and four out of five listeners spending more than one hour each day consuming audio content. However, a substantial gap remains between consumption and monetization. While 86% of respondents reported paying for video OTT (Over-the-Top) services at some point, only 38% said they had ever paid for a music streaming service, including where bundled. According to the EY–IMI analysis, widespread availability of free alternatives and limited differentiation between free and premium offerings continue to influence subscription adoption. Interestingly, 61% of respondents were willing to pay for streaming music if free alternatives disappeared and pricing was reasonable. The balance 39% would still not pay, and move to pirated and other sources of music. Blaise Fernandes, President, Indian Music Industry (IMI) said, “Art requires more than just inspiration; it requires economic oxygen. To take Indian music global and discover our next generation of talent, we must transition from being a passive consumer market into active patron’s market. Paying for an audio digital subscription is a direct investment by the fan to show support to their favourite performers and also helps in preserving and exporting our rich cultural heritage.”   Vikram Mehra, Chairman, IMI said, “EY-IMI’s Consumer study validates our belief that Indian consumer is ready to pay for quality. We look forward to working with our partners, the DSPs, in expanding the audio paid services ecosystem in India. The eventual goal is to get India into the top 5 music market of the world." Commenting on the findings, Ashish Pherwani, Partner and Leader, Media & Entertainment Sector, EY India said: "Music remains one of India's most consumed forms of digital entertainment. The report highlights an opportunity for the industry to further strengthen subscription adoption through improved consumer awareness, differentiated offerings and innovation that responds to evolving listener preferences."  The EY–IMI report notes that dedicated music streaming platforms remain the preferred destination for structured listening experiences, with 60% of respondents using digital service providers for music consumption. At the same time, discovery increasingly takes place through short-form video and social platforms, influencing how users engage with music services. Key findings  96% of smartphone owners consumed music, of whom 80% listened for over an hour a day 38% of smartphone users had ever paid for music, while 86% had ever paid for video (including bundles) 60% of smartphone users listened to music on DSPs (digital service providers), compared to 32% on YouTube 61% were willing to pay if all free options ended and the price was reasonable Free alternatives and limited perceived differentiation between free and premium services remain key barriers to subscription growth Consumers who pay for music primarily cite ad-free listening, playback control and higher audio quality as reasons for subscribing The report estimates that India's paid music subscriber base could reach 28–30 million by 2028 About the report  How India listens, streams and pays for music is a joint report by EY and Indian Music Industry (IMI), based on a survey of 15,373 smartphone users conducted during March and April 2026, supplemented by psychometric research involving more than 2,200 consumers and discussions with industry stakeholders. The report assesses music consumption patterns, payment behaviour and growth opportunities in India's music streaming market. XAI to Superintelligence: Inventor Vatsal Soin’s 0→1 Doctrine Governs AI Decisions Pre-Execution, Not Post-Hoc

0
Hello Mumbai Business Desk XAI to Superintelligence: Inventor Vatsal Soin’s 0→1 Doctrine Governs AI Decisions Pre-Execution, Not Post-Hoc  Explainable AI –  XAI — answers what a machine decided, but only after it already acted. The next AI frontier is whether a consequential action can be measured, tested against a defined boundary, and stopped before execution instead. The 0→1 Doctrine is a filed architecture built for that pre-execution question—across AI, human needs, supply systems, capital and other measurable domains.  Live: www.0to1doctrine.com  THE IDEA IN PLAIN LANGUAGE  Most digital systems answer after the fact: what happened, what did the model output, why did the result differ from expectation. The 0→1 Doctrine starts earlier: a proposed action is measured against a permitted boundary before it becomes an external event. The idea is domain- and scale-agnostic — the same logic applies wherever a need can be expressed as measurable requirements and an authorized boundary defines what is permitted. It is closer to an internet-layer idea such as HTTP than a single industry application: a reusable grammar, not one vertical product. WHY PRE-EXECUTION MATTERS NOW  AI agents are moving from producing answers to taking actions. That shift changes the governance problem: once an agent can act at machine speed, a review that occurs only after execution may document an event without preventing it. The 0→1 Doctrine proposes a narrower control point: measure the proposed action, compare it with the authorized band, seal the governance result, and permit the governed action only when the required condition is satisfied. XAI ANSWERS A DIFFERENT QUESTION  Explainability can be valuable because it helps people understand a model's output or the factors associated with it. But an explanation is not inherently an authorization mechanism. A system may be able to explain a proposed action perfectly and still have no technical boundary preventing the action. The 0→1 distinction is therefore not 'explainability versus no explainability.' It is explanation versus execution control: one describes or interprets a decision; the other determines whether a consequential act may cross an external boundary. As opaque recurrence reduces readable traces of computation, monitorability becomes harder — strengthening the case for an external control boundary. A LAW OLDER THAN THE PROBLEM IT NOW FACES  The right to know why predates the systems now being asked to explain themselves. In 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation created a legal right for individuals to receive an explanation when an automated system makes a decision about them. The EU AI Act extends the same principle further, with obligations phasing in through 2027. The law does not ask for a plausible account. It asks for a real one. WHAT XAI ACTUALLY DELIVERS, IN ITS OWN WORDS  Post hoc means after the fact — and that timing is the whole problem. The field built to satisfy this requirement is Explainable AI, or XAI. Its methods, including SHAP, test how a model's output changes when inputs are perturbed, then infer which features mattered — a post hoc process, performed after the decision. Their own literature is direct: a SHAP explanation approximates a model's computation. It does not report what the model did. THE 0→1 GRAMMAR  The doctrine begins with a requirement and a capability, each normalized to a common 0-to-1 representation. The requirement becomes a permitted...

₹1,000 to ₹10,000 App Loans: What the Processing Fee Does to Your Effective Annual Rate

0
₹1,000 to ₹10,000 App Loans: What the Processing Fee Does to Your Effective Annual Rate   Hello Mumbai Business Desk  Small loans through mobile apps have made borrowing genuinely easy. A few thousand rupees can reach your account within minutes. The interest rate shown often looks reasonable. What most borrowers do not check is the processing fee, and on very small, very short loans, that fee does something surprising to the actual cost. Here is how the maths works. Why Small-Ticket Loans Are Different On a ₹5 lakh loan repaid over five years, a processing fee of 2% is spread across 60 instalments. It adds to the cost but does not transform it. On a ₹5,000 loan repaid in 30 days, the same percentage fee is spread across a single repayment. The effect on the annual cost is completely different, because the fee is charged once but the loan lasts only a few weeks. This is why comparing small loans by interest rate alone gives you the wrong answer. Whether you are looking at a 1000 instant loan or a ₹10,000 advance, the fee structure deserves more attention than the rate. A Simple Worked Example Suppose you borrow ₹5,000 for 30 days. The lender charges interest of ₹100 and a processing fee of ₹150 plus applicable GST. You receive around ₹4,823 after the fee is deducted. At the end of 30 days you repay ₹5,100. Your total cost is about ₹277 on money you actually held for one month. As a percentage of the amount you received, that is roughly 5.7% for 30 days. Annualised, that works out to a far higher figure than the headline interest rate suggested. The interest was small. The fee did most of the work. The Rule of Thumb The shorter the tenure, the more a fixed fee inflates the effective annual cost. The same ₹150 fee on a 30-day loan costs you far more in annual terms than on a 90-day loan, because you are paying it for a much shorter period of use. This is why regulators ask lenders to disclose the annual percentage rate, or APR, which combines interest and fees into a single comparable number. What to Check Before You Accept a Small Loan Thedisbursal amount, not the sanctioned amount Check exactly how much will reach your bank account after deductions. If you need ₹5,000 in hand, you may have to borrow slightly more. Thetotal repayment amount One number tells you almost everything: what you will repay in total on the due date. Compare that figure across lenders, not the interest rate. TheAPR A compliant lender will show the annual percentage rate before you accept the loan. If you cannot find it, treat that as a warning sign. Latepayment charges Small loans often carry flat late fees that are large relative to the loan amount. A single missed due date can cost more than the original interest. Whetherthe lender is RBI-registered Check that the app names the regulated lender behind it. Products such as an mpokket loan are offered by registered entities that must disclose charges clearly, follow fair recovery practices and report to credit bureaus properly. Warning Signs Worth Taking Seriously The app asks for access to your contacts, photos or call logs. Charges are not shown in full before you accept. The lender behind the app is not named anywhere. You are pressured to accept a larger amount than you asked for. Repayment terms change after disbursal. How These Loans Affect Your Credit Report Registered lenders report small loans to credit bureaus, exactly as they do larger ones. A repaid loan builds your record. A missed due date damages it. Repeated small borrowings in quick succession can also work against you. Lenders reviewing a future application see a pattern of frequent short-term credit, which suggests the monthly budget is under strain. When a Small App Loan Makes Sense Used correctly, these loans solve a real problem. They work well when the amount is small, the need is genuine, and you are certain you can repay on the due date. They work badly as a way to cover a shortfall that repeats every month. If you find yourself borrowing to repay a previous loan, the loan is no longer solving the problem. It has become the problem. If the requirement is recurring or larger than a few thousand rupees, a regular personal loan with a longer tenure and a reducing balance rate usually works out cheaper than repeatedly taking short-term app loans. Conclusion On small, short loans the processing fee matters more than the interest rate. Always compare the total repayment amount and the APR, confirm what will actually reach your account, and borrow only what you can clear on the due date. Read the fee line before you read the rate line. On a loan this small and this short, that is where almost all of your actual cost is hiding. Above Content is Guest Post

Why Banks Reject Loan Applications in India: Glasba Financial Services Founder Amita Goyal Explains

0
Hello Mumbai Business Desk  Introduction:  Getting a bank loan is often seen as the fastest way for businesses or individuals to meet financial needs. Yet, many loan applications are rejected every day, leaving applicants frustrated. In India, banks follow strict evaluation procedures to reduce risk. Understanding the common reasons for rejection can help borrowers prepare better and improve their chances of approval. Loan Rejection in India Reason why Bank Say No Smita Goyal Glasba Financial Services founder will guide you Reasons Why Banks Reject Loans:  PoorCredit Score  Banks rely heavily on a borrower’s credit history. A low credit score indicates past defaults, late payments, or over-borrowing. It signals high risk to banks, even if the applicant is otherwise financially sound. Maintaining a healthy credit history is crucial for smooth loan approval. Incompleteor Wrong Documentation  Banks require detailed documentation to verify income, repayment capacity, and business legitimacy. Missing or inconsistent Income Tax Returns, GST filings, financial statements, KYC documents, or bank statements can lead to rejection. Even minor discrepancies or errors in documents may raise concerns. WeakCash Flow or Repayment Capacity Even profitable businesses can get rejected if their cash flow is irregular. Banks want assurance that the borrower can repay EMIs on time. Loan approval depends not only on profit but also on regular and predictable cash flow. Banks assess whether borrowers can pay EMIs comfortably over time. Irregular income patterns, seasonal businesses, or unstable revenue streams often reduce loan eligibility ...

How DSAs Make Loan Approvals Faster and Smarter: Insights from Finance Expert Amita Goyal

Hello Mumbai Business Desk  The Role of DSAs in Faster and Smarter Loan Approval Introduction:  Applying for a business loan directly to a bank can often be confusing and time-consuming. Many businesses face delays, rejections, or receive smaller loan amounts than expected, not because they are financially weak, but due to poor documentation, incomplete financials, or improper presentation. In such cases, the loan process becomes stressful, and opportunities are lost. This is where a DSA (Direct Selling Agent) becomes invaluable. A DSA acts as a bridge between the borrower and the bank, guiding businesses to prepare their applications correctly and submit them to the right lenders. Their support ensures that the loan application is structured, complete, and aligned with the bank’s requirements, resulting in faster and smarter approvals. What a DSA Actually Does:  A DSA does far more than just submitting loan forms. A professional DSA evaluates the borrower’s business, identifies weak points, and helps fix potential issues before the application reaches the bank. This ensures that the lender receives a clean, complete, and well-structured file, which significantly reduces processing time and improves the chance of approval. DSAs help businesses by: Understanding the exact loan requirement and purpose Checking eligibility criteria before submision Advising on proper documents and formas Selecting the most suitable banks or NBFs Improving the overall loan profile presentaion These steps prevent unnecessary rejections and save both time and effort for the business owner. How DSAs Make Loan Approval Faster:  RightBank Selection Every bank has its own policies, limits, and lending criteria. A DSA knows which lender best suits your business profile. Applying selectively to appropriate banks avoids repeated rejections, reducing delays and speeding up the decision-making process.  ...
