Aaji Care Inaugurates Its Largest 49-Bed Assisted Living Centre in Kalyani Nagar, Pune

Aaji Care Inaugurates Its Largest 49-Bed Assisted Living Centre in Kalyani Nagar, Pune

Hello Mumbai Pune Desk

Padma Shri Dr. Prakash Amte, Dr. Mandakini Amte, Dr. Vitthal Kamat and Achyut Godbole attend the inauguration of Aaji Care’s sixth centre

Pune, 30 August 2026: Aaji Care, an elder-care organisation working across Mumbai, Pune and Goa, inaugurated its sixth Assisted Living Centre and second centre in Pune at Kalyani Nagar on Sunday, 30 August. The new centre marks another milestone in Aaji Care’s journey towards creating compassionate, comprehensive and dignified care environments for India’s growing elderly population.

Aaji Care Inaugurates Its Largest 49-Bed Assisted Living Centre in Kalyani Nagar, PuneSpread across a purpose-built seven-storey building with a capacity of **49 beds**, the new facility is Aaji Care’s largest centre to date. Designed specifically around the evolving physical, medical, cognitive, emotional and social needs of older adults, the centre brings together different levels of care under one roof, creating a continuum of support as the needs of elders evolve.

The centre was inaugurated by **Padma Shri Dr. Prakash Amte and Dr. Mandakini Amte**, in the presence of renowned hotelier **Dr. Vitthal Kamat** and author and social thinker **Mr. Achyut Godbole**. More than 175 guests, including doctors, senior citizens, business leaders, social-sector representatives and members of the media, attended the inauguration.

A centre designed around the changing needs of ageing

Recognising that every elder does not require the same kind or level of support, the seven-storey centre has been thoughtfully designed around different stages and care requirements.

Four floors are dedicated to elders living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia**, with environments designed to support safety, familiarity, routine, comfort and emotional wellbeing. A separate floor is dedicated to high-dependency care , supporting elders who require greater levels of medical and personal assistance.

Two additional floors cater to elders requiring **rehabilitation and assisted living**, as well as those who remain relatively active and independent but prefer the security, companionship and support of a professionally managed senior living environment.

The facility also includes an exclusive **physiotherapy unit** and dedicated activity spaces designed to support mobility, rehabilitation, cognitive stimulation, socialisation, recreation and meaningful engagement.

The centre has been designed with **ageing-in-place architect Rama Sane**, with inputs from doctors, geriatric psychologists, physiotherapists and elder-care professionals. The objective has been to bring together professional care and safety with a warm, comfortable and home-like environment.

A multidisciplinary team of trained caregivers, nurses, doctors, psychologists and physiotherapists will support elders living with dementia, mobility limitations, chronic medical conditions, post-hospitalisation rehabilitation needs and higher levels of dependency.

“We don’t want to simply add beds; we want to add better days to the lives of our elders”

Speaking about the vision behind the new centre, **Prasad Bhide, Founder of Aaji Care, said that the organisation’s purpose goes beyond simply increasing the number of beds available for senior care.

“We don’t want to simply add beds; we want to add better days to the lives of our elders and help them age gracefully.”

Elaborating on Aaji Care’s philosophy of **‘Ageing Gracefully’**, Bhide said that meaningful elder care cannot be defined only by medical support or infrastructure.

“Ageing gracefully is not just about providing good medical care and good infrastructure. It is equally about helping elders maintain their independence and dignity, giving them companionship, keeping them meaningfully engaged and, most importantly, surrounding them with a lot of love. An elder may need assistance, but that should never take away their individuality or their right to make choices about their own life.”

According to Bhide, an assisted living centre should therefore be much more than a place to live or receive medical care. It should create an environment where **professional care and safety coexist with independence, dignity, companionship, engagement and emotional wellbeing.

Aaji Care Inaugurates Its Largest 49-Bed Assisted Living Centre in Kalyani Nagar, PuneA message of active and independent ageing

The inauguration brought together perspectives on ageing, healthcare, compassion and the need to create a society that respects and supports its elders.

Speaking at the occasion, **Achyut Godbole** highlighted the growing need for professionally managed and sensitive assisted living facilities as family structures, lifestyles and social relationships continue to evolve. He noted that an increasingly individualistic society has created a greater need for spaces where senior citizens can receive care and support while continuing to live with companionship, security and dignity.

He also appreciated the thought and planning that had gone into the design of Aaji Care’s new Kalyani Nagar facility and its focus on addressing the diverse needs of older adults.

Dr. Prakash Amte and Dr. Mandakini Amte** spoke about the importance of action over words and reflected on the legacy of Baba Amte and the work that continues at Hemalkasa through the next generation.

They emphasised the importance of remaining physically active, exercising regularly and continuing to do as much of one’s own work as possible even after retirement. They also shared an important message for senior citizens and their families — that younger generations should be given the freedom to make their own decisions, with advice offered when it is sought.

Dr. Prakash Amte also recalled the support extended by Aaji Care to their colleague and social worker **Nirmala Sathe** during the final phase of her life, when she was cared for at Aaji Care’s existing Pune centre. He appreciated the care and support provided to her during that period.

Brain Gym, Neurobics and the celebration of ‘Ageing Gracefully’

The inauguration programme itself reflected Aaji Care’s broader belief that healthy ageing goes well beyond medical care.

**Naina Oke, Head of Mental Health at Aaji Care**, conducted an interactive session on **Brain Gym and Neurobics** for the guests. Through simple exercises and activities, the session demonstrated ways to stimulate the brain and highlighted the importance of keeping the mind active as we age.

The programme also featured specially presented **Kathak performances based on the theme of ‘Ageing Gracefully’**. Through classical dance, movement and expression, the performances celebrated ageing not simply as a stage of increasing dependency, but as a meaningful phase of life that can continue to be filled with dignity, expression, joy and engagement.

Together, these elements reinforced Aaji Care’s central philosophy — that elder care must address not only medical and physical needs, but also **cognitive health, emotional wellbeing, social connection, independence and meaningful participation**.

Responding to the changing landscape of elder care

Founded in **August 2012**, Aaji Care works with senior citizens and their families across Mumbai, Pune and Goa, particularly where medical conditions, dementia, mental-health concerns or mobility limitations make independent living or care at home increasingly difficult.

Its services include **assisted living, dementia and memory care, post-hospitalisation and rehabilitation care, palliative and high-dependency care, home-based elder care and geriatric mental-health support.

The Kalyani Nagar facility is Aaji Care’s sixth Assisted Living Centre and second centre in Pune**. With its combination of specialised care, assisted living, rehabilitation and active senior living, the centre has been envisioned as a continuum of care that can respond to changing needs while helping elders retain as much independence and choice as possible.

Following the inauguration ceremony, the chief guests and members of the audience toured the facility and appreciated its thoughtfully designed infrastructure and comprehensive approach to senior care.

At the heart of Aaji Care’s approach is the belief that ageing should not merely be viewed as a stage of life requiring care, but as a meaningful chapter that deserves **independence, dignity, companionship, comfort, engagement and joy

Aaji Care Inaugurates Its Largest 49-Bed Assisted Living Centre in Kalyani Nagar, PuneThrough professional and compassionate care, Aaji Care aims to help elders live their better days with greater confidence, purpose and happiness, while giving their families the reassurance and peace of mind that their loved ones are cared for with warmth, respect and dignity.

Sugee Lake District to Shape Thane’s Next Chapter of Commercial Growth

Hello Mumbai Business Desk

Sugee Lake District to Shape Thane’s Next Chapter of Commercial Growth

Grade A++ commercial spaces with panoramic lake and city views

Mumbai, August 26, 2026: Sugee Group has unveiled Sugee Lake District, its landmark 52-acre waterfront development that brings premium commercial, retail, hospitality and lifestyle experiences to Thane West. Located opposite Korum Mall, near Cadbury Junction in Khopat, the Eastern Express Highway fronting development also marks Sugee Group’s foray into the Thane market.

Sugee Lake District has been conceived as a world-class business district that reflects Thane’s sustained economic growth, expanding commercial importance and its emergence as one of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s fastest-growing commercial real estate markets. The project will feature Grade A++ commercial offices offering panoramic views of the lake and the city. High-street retail, fine dining and a six-acre lakeview promenade will complement the commercial environment, creating a destination where people can work, connect, recharge and spend time beyond the office.

Reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development, the commercial project has been registered under LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), one of the world’s most widely recognised green building rating systems. The registration underscores the project’s focus on environmentally responsible design, resource efficiency and high-performance spaces, supporting Sugee Lake District’s vision of creating a smarter and more sustainable commercial destination for Thane.

The development has been designed by Architect Hafeez Contractor Padma Bhushan recipient with Sterling serving as the structural consultant and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) undertaking the peer review. Together, they bring globally recognised design and engineering expertise to the Sugee Thane project, creating a commercial landmark defined by architectural excellence, structural strength and advanced infrastructure.

Commenting on the development, Nishant Deshmukh, Founder and Managing Partner Sugee Group said, “Sugee Lake District is part of our vision to create a marquee destination where business, lifestyle and well-being come together and grow together. It is designed for businesses, brands, entrepreneurs and investors seeking more than a conventional commercial address. With Grade A++ commercial spaces, retail, dining, wellness amenities and a six-acre lakeview promenade, the development will create a vibrant, all-day destination that supports growth, connection and long-term value for its occupants and the wider community in Thane.”

Commenting on the architectural vision, Ar. Hafeez Contractor said, “Siddheshwar Lake gives the site a distinctive natural setting, and our design ensures that the waterfront becomes an integral part of the district’s identity and experience, rather than remaining peripheral to it. The vision is to create a commercial destination of international standards that feels open, people-centric and timeless, with connectivity, landscape and architecture coming together as one cohesive environment. Beyond being a workplace, the development is designed to make the everyday work experience more engaging and closely connected to nature. I believe there is currently no commercial development of this nature in Thane, Mumbai or even India.”

The first commercial landmark within the wider development will be a ground-plus-45-storey commercial tower offering offices ranging from approximately 800 sq. ft. to 6,000 sq. ft., with options to combine adjoining units. Typical floor plates of approximately 46,000 sq. ft. will provide businesses with the flexibility to plan workplaces around their operational requirements and future expansion. The range of unit sizes is intended to widen access to Grade A++ commercial property in Thane, from independent professionals and growing firms to large occupiers.

The commercial tower will feature 46 high-speed elevators, supported by dedicated service elevators, for efficient movement. Flexible floor plates, prominent frontage and premium lake- and city-facing offices will cater to established companies, growing enterprises, professionals, investors and brands seeking a strategic address in Thane.

Designed to bring work, wellness and leisure together, Sugee Lake District will offer a rooftop lounge, café, fitness centre, steam room, pickleball court, turf and indoor games room. A crèche, pet crèche, medical room and red-light therapy room will further support the everyday needs and well-being of working professionals.

Located near Cadbury Junction with highway frontage, Sugee Lake District offers convenient access to Thane’s established residential neighbourhoods, business districts, retail destinations and civic infrastructure. Connectivity is set to further strengthen with the expanding metro network, Borivali–Thane Twin Tunnel, Thane Coastal Road, proposed Bullet Train station, redeveloped Thane railway station and Thane Integral Ring Metro.

The Samruddhi and Mumbai–Vadodara expressways, Virar–Alibaug Multimodal Corridor, Goregaon–Mulund Link Road, Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor and access to the international airport will enhance regional connectivity for businesses, employees, clients and related stakeholders.

Through Sugee Lake District in Thane, Sugee Developers is responding to the city’s growing demand for well-planned commercial spaces that support business growth and long-term investment. Envisioned around Thane’s identity as N.I.C.E.™ — New India’s City of Economic-Growth™ — Sugee Lake District is poised to create a distinctive new centre for enterprise, opportunity and modern work. It will offer businesses a landmark address, professionals an environment in which to thrive, and investors a place in Thane’s next chapter of commercial growth.

Hello Mumbai National Desk

Khelo India Revamped Scheme to Strengthen Maharashtra’s Sporting Talent Pipeline, Infrastructure and Athlete Support

₹36,441crore Khelo India Scheme targets 10-fold expansion in athlete support; focus on scientific talent identification, sports infrastructure, coaching, sports science and technology

36,441 Crore Khelo India Scheme to Expand Athlete Support 10-Fold, Strengthen Sports Ecosystem

Mumbai, 18 August 2026: The Sports Authority of India (SAI), Regional Centre Mumbai, today organised a press interaction on the Khelo India Revamped Scheme (2026–31), highlighting the Government of India’s expanded vision to strengthen India’s sporting ecosystem and create a seamless pathway for athletes from grassroots participation to national and international sporting excellence.

With Maharashtra being one of India’s leading sporting ecosystems, the interaction focused on how the expanded Khelo India framework can further strengthen the State’s sporting pathway — from schools and grassroots talent identification to Khelo India Centres, Emerging Khelo India Athletes, high-performance training, competitions and ultimately the national and international stage.

The revamped Khelo India Scheme represents a significant expansion of the Government’s investment in sports, with an outlay of ₹36,441 crore for 2026–31, approximately eight times the previous outlay. The scheme aims to expand the number of athletes supported by nearly 10 times, creating a much larger and more structured sporting ecosystem across the contry.

36,441 Crore Khelo India Scheme to Expand Athlete Support 10-Fold, Strengthen Sports Ecosystem

The interaction was attended by  Pandurang Chate (IRS), Regional Director, SAI Regional Centre Mumbai, along with Shri Ankit Patil, Assistant Director, SAI Regional Centre Mumbai, and distinguished Indian sportspersons Shri Pramod Bhagat, Padma Shri awardee, Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Awardee, Paralympic Gold Medallist and multiple-time World Champion in Para-Badminton; Shri Sukant Kadam, BWF World Championship Gold Medallist in Para-Badminton; and Ms. Rutuja Sampatrao Bhosale, Asian Games Gold Medallist in Tenis.

Building a stronger Maharashtra-to-podium pathway

The revamped Khelo India framework provides an opportunity to strengthen Maharashtra’s existing sporting ecosystem by connecting different stages of an athlete’s development into a more coherent pathway.

The focus is not merely on creating additional sporting centres, but on ensuring that a young athlete can be identified early, receive structured training and support, gain regular competition exposure and progressively move towards high-performance sport.

For Maharashtra, this approach is particularly relevant given the depth of sporting talent across Mumbai and other districts. While Mumbai has the potential to function as a major high-performance sporting hub, strengthening sporting facilities and opportunities across districts will be critical to ensuring that talent from across the State has access to appropriate infrastructure, coaching and competition.

“The revamped Khelo India Scheme represents a fundamental shift towards building a complete sporting pathway rather than looking at sports development as a collection of individual initiatives. Maharashtra has a strong sporting culture and a deep pool of talent, and our objective must be to connect that talent to the right opportunities at every stage — from schools and grassroots centres to structured training, competition and high performance sport. Mumbai has the potential to emerge as a strong high-performance hub, while strengthening facilities across Maharashtra’s districts will help ensure that talent is identified and nurtured closer to where it comes from. The ultimate objective is to create a seamless pathway through which a young athlete can progress from the grassroots to the podium.”

Nine key components to drive sporting exellence

The revamped Khelo India Scheme is built around nine key components covering sports infrastructure; sports competitions and leagues; talent identification and Khelo India Training Facilities; coach and support staff development; the Fit India Movement; and Sports Technology, with infrastructure itself divided into three focused areas.

A major pillar of the scheme is a three-pronged sports infrastructure strategy comprising Sports Infrastructure for Medal Strategy, Strengthening Strategic Sports Assets, and State Action Plan for Sports Infrastructure Development.

36,441 Crore Khelo India Scheme to Expand Athlete Support 10-Fold, Strengthen Sports EcosystemExisting sporting infrastructure will be mapped across Olympic, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games disciplines, with gap analysis to identify facilities that require upgradation and areas where new infrastructure may be required. The approach is intended to align infrastructure development more closely with medal objectives and sporting potential.

The State Action Plan for Sports Infrastructure Development will also give States a greater role in building and strengthening sporting infrastructure. The framework provides for a 60:40 Centre-State cost-sharing model, with funding linked to outcomes such as talent progression, athlete retention, grassroots-to-elite transition and reform-based milestones.

Scientific talent identification and 30,000-athlete support framework

A key feature of the revamped scheme is the creation of a standardised, scientific and technology-enabled national talent identification systm.

The framework envisages Khelo India Utkrishta Vidyalayas, Khelo India Feeder Schools and Khelo India Centres, creating a wider network through which talent can be identified and nurtured systematically.

The scheme further envisages support for athletes across all major sports disciplines, comprising Khelo India Athletes (KIA) and Emerging Khelo India Athletes (E-KIA). The introduction of E-KIAs is particularly significant in strengthening the transition between grassroots talent identification and elite competition.

Athlete support under the framework extends beyond training. Khelo India athletes will receive assistance covering coaching, diet and lodging, sports kits, travel, competition exposure, medical care and education, supported by sports-science professionals.

More competitions and greater opportunities for athletes

The revamped scheme will strengthen the competition ecosystem through school, university, regional, zonal and sport-specific leagues, providing athletes with more regular opportunities to compete and gain experience.

Alongside the flagship Khelo India Youth Games and Khelo India University Games, the scheme provides for Khelo India Para Games, Winter Games, Beach Games, Tribal Games and Water Sports, as well as the ASMITA Women League.

For athletes in Maharashtra, a stronger competition ecosystem can help bridge the gap between training and high-performance sport by providing regular opportunities to compete, assess performance and gain exposure.

36,441 Crore Khelo India Scheme to Expand Athlete Support 10-Fold, Strengthen Sports EcosystemProfessionalising coaching and sports science

The scheme also places greater emphasis on the quality of the people supporting athletes. It seeks to address shortages of qualified coaches, sports scientists and other support personnel through systematic skilling, international exposure and the proposed National Coach Accreditation Board (NCAB).

The athlete support ecosystem will increasingly incorporate specialised services including doctors, physiotherapists, psychologists, nutritionists and biomechanists, ensuring that athlete development is approached holistically rather than through coaching alone.

Fit India and Sports Technology

The expanded Fit India Movement will develop into a broader grassroots fitness ecosystem through community fitness hubs, mass participation, yoga and indigenous games. The initiative will also seek to increase participation among women and Divyangjan and strengthen partnerships with educational institutions and community organisations.

Sports Technology has also been introduced as a new component of the revamped scheme. It will provide end-to-end digital traceability of an athlete’s journey, with applications including AI and video-based talent scouting, IoT enabled wearables, sports science, AI-driven performance analytics, competition management, sports education, post-career transition and lifelong wellness.

Athletes highlight the importance of a complete sporting ecosystem

The participation of accomplished athletes at the interaction highlighted the importance of providing athletes with the right infrastructure, coaching, competition exposure and support systems at different stages of their careers.

Pramod Bhagat, Paralympic Gold Medallist and multiple-time World Champion in Para-Badminton, said:

“For an athlete, talent is only the beginning. The journey to the highest level requires the right coaching, facilities, competition exposure, sports science and consistent support over many years. A scheme like Khelo India can make a significant difference by creating that support system from a much earlier stage. I am particularly encouraged by the emphasis on inclusive sporting opportunities, because every talented athlete, including para athletes, should have a clear pathway to pursue excellence.”

Shri Sukant Kadam, BWF World Championship Gold Medallist in Para-Badminton, said:

“The biggest strength of a sporting system is its ability to identify talent early and then stay invested in that athlete’s journey. The revamped Khelo India framework takes an important step in this direction by linking talent identification with training, competition exposure and athlete support. For young athletes, knowing that there is a structured pathway ahead can give them the confidence to dream bigger and work towards representing India at the highest level.”

Ms. Rutuja Sampatrao Bhosale, Asian Games Gold Medallist in Tennis, said:

“Regular competition, quality coaching and access to the right facilities are extremely important in an athlete’s development. The expanded Khelo India framework can help young athletes get these opportunities much earlier and closer to home. With Maharashtra having such a strong sporting culture, strengthening the ecosystem across Mumbai as well as other districts can help more young athletes make the transition from potential to performance and eventually compete at the highest level.”

The achievements of Pramod Bhagat, Sukant Kadam and Rutuja Bhosale exemplify the potential of Indian athletes when talent is supported through structured training, competition exposure and high-performance systems.

The Khelo India Revamped Scheme (202631) seeks to build precisely such an integrated ecosystem — one that identifies talent early, develops athletes systematically, strengthens infrastructure and coaching, uses sports science and technology, and creates sustained opportunities for athletes to progress from the grassroots to the national and international stage.

For Maharashtra, the opportunity lies in strengthening the entire sporting chain: from grassroots identification to schools to Khelo India Centres to Emerging Khelo India Athletes to high performance training to competitions to national and international excellence.
